Mike Hastie is an activist, photographer and artist on a mission. His experiences as a Viet Nam veteran inform his work. He directly challenges conventional American narratives about the military, patriotism, and war. His experiences witnessing American aggression and barbarism in war abroad, and his keen observation of nationalism at home, have inspired a body of photo work that challenges the status quo and lays bare the cruelty and atrocities inherent in war, forcing viewers to question their assumptions around the justifications for war and militarism.
